What Exactly are you doing to my Pet?

You're in the appointment when the doctor recommends a procedure. You just watched your buddy disappear through the door. What happens between then and when you see them coming back through the door?

"Cysto" or Cystocentisis
When: a sterile urine sample is needed.

Why:  urine that passes naturally comes in contact with surfaces that may contaminate it with organisms that are not actually in the bladder.

How:  pet lays on it's back in a "v"-shaped cushion.  A needle is passed through the abdomen into the bladder.
 No Description  Box Induction
When:  your kitty remembers it's anecestors were pumas and does not want us to do what we need to do.

Why: greatly lessens stress for your cat and greatly increases safety of our staff.

How: your kitty is placed in a clear, sealed box that is hooked up to an anesthetic.  Gas and oxygen enter the box and your kitty falls asleep.

 Radiographs

When: something might be going on internally that could be visualized with an xray.

Why:
not invasive, the doctors can "see" without doing surgery to actually look at an area.

How:
your pet lays on the table and the nurse measures the thickness of the area to be imaged.  The generator is set based on the thickness, the part of your pet that the doctor wants to see is held over a film and xrays travel through the pet to the film leaving an image of what is seen.
