Support Staff

Veterinary practices require staff with a variety of skills so that doctors can focus on your pet's health care.  There is no standardization as to what those roles and duties are and you will find great variation from practice to practice.  Here at Companion Animal Wellness Center, we have support staff assisting the doctors in the following roles.  Click on the titles to learn more about the awesome individuals who make up our staff.

Administration & Technology. Running a small business involves interacting with related business people like bankers, accountants, vendors and advertising representatives; managing internal logistics such as scheduling patients and staff, accounting for funds, paying suppliers, filing tax reports and preparing payroll; and keeping both high-tech and low-tech equipment properly functioning.

Licensed Veterinary Technicians are the equivalent of registered nurses in human medicine.  They receive training outside the practice and are licensed by the state after passing an exam and fullfilling either education or experience requirements.  Veterinary technicians are responsible for anesthesia, radiology, surgical assisting, laboratory analysis, client education, nursing care, medical recordkeeping, ordering supplies and maintaining equipment.

Veterinary assistants
fill in the holes under the supervision of the licensed techs.  At Companion Animal Wellness Center, we have two types of assistants, those assisting with medical care and those assisting with communication.  The medical assistants are responsible for documentation, preparing invoices and assisting the doctors and technicians.  Assistants in charge of client care and communication figure out how we can best help you, troubleshoot any problems that might arise and get us all together in the right place at the right time.

Of course, all this activity makes a big mess everyday, so our housekeeper is in charge of getting the practice ready to work again the next day.
